Disable USB Ports with Registry
Follow below given steps one-by-one and disable USB ports with the help of Windows registry editor. As we are going to make a little change on Windows registry so, before we start, keep safe and side take a back of your registry then continue with below steps:
Most Important: Trick given below, may also disable the access of any USB connected peripheral devices. Therefore, do not use it if you have USB connected mouse or keyboard. I have done some experiments to check this;
In my case, I have connected wireless mouse with its USB receiver to my laptop (Windows 10). I did all below steps and rest all USB ports were disabled, but my mouse is still functional.
Then, I tested on my Windows 7 Desktop, which has a Wireless USB connected keyboard, and a different USB mouse that is already connected. Step 1. With your keyboard and use hotkeys “Win + R” to open Run dialog box. Once open type “regedit” and hit Enter button or click OK to open Windows Registry Editor.
Step 2. On Windows Registry Editor, we need to navigate to the path given below:

- To the right panel, you will see the key “Start” and its data value “3” (Image 1)
- Double click on Start key and “Edit DWORD (32-bit) value” will open on screen
- Change value data from “3” to”4” in order to disable USB ports of your computer (Image 2)

Enable USB Ports and Make Settings to Default
If you would like to enable USB ports back as it was working before then, reach on the same registry path given above on Step 2 and change value data to “3”. This will make USB port settings to default and system USB ports will be functional.
This trick will work on Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10 too. It must be a good trick or a way to make your system unassailable for malware or virus spread through USB ports or any kind of malware attack to the Windows.
